COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL How to measure & describe an arch To facilitate ease of ordering, Arches
Made Easy has arrived at the following uniform method of
describing an arch. |
WIDTH |
Actual width, side to side as you look into it, of the rough frame opening. Arches are usually patterned in 2" increments allowing side to side adjustment of +1" and thus allowing for variances in framing widths without affecting the appearance (i.e. - a 36-3/4" opening would take a 36" arch.) Half-circle arches should be measured to with-in 1".
DROP |
The measurement of the distance between the top or peak of the arch to the lower portion of the arch. Sometimes referred to as the rise, leg, spring or slope of the arch. A good rule of thumb for unspecified drops is a 6:1 ratio to the width of the opening (i.e. a 48" wide opening would have an 8" drop.) The "drop" of a half-circle arch would be 1/2 the diameter (i.e. a 72" half-circle width would have a 36" drop.)
DEPTH |
The measurement of the "thickness" of the opening or niche (the distance going away from you as you look into the opening.) This measurement should be accurate to 1/4".
TYPE |
Designate as to what the application will be 1) A passage type opening or 2) a niche type opening (a solid back.) Both types are the same price.
STYLE |
Refer to the arch shapes page for different styles available and list in appropriate column. |
